Ontario runs the most developed regulated online-casino market in Canada. Since 4 April 2022, players who are 19 or older and physically in the province can legally play at operators registered with the AGCO and holding an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario (iGO). Is Online Casino Gambling Legal in Ontario?
Yes — and three bodies share the work, which is worth understanding:
- AGCO (Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario) registers and regulates operators and sets the Registrar’s Standards for Internet Gaming (age verification, game integrity, data security, anti-money-laundering, responsible gambling).
- iGaming Ontario (iGO), a subsidiary of the AGCO, “conducts and manages” the market — it signs the commercial agreements with each private operator and maintains the official register of sites.
- OLG (OLG.ca / PlayOLG) is the government’s own platform, which pre-dates the open market and sits outside the iGO framework.

Regulated vs Grey-Market: How to Tell
Before you sign up, look for the iGaming Ontario logo and confirm the operator on the AGCO’s public register of registered iGaming sites. A registered Ontario site must verify your age and Ontario location, offer responsible-gambling tools by default, keep player funds protected, and give you a real complaints path. Self-Exclusion: Ontario BetGuard
Ontario is rolling out a Centralized Self-Exclusion Program (BetGuard): one request excludes you from every registered iGaming site in the province at once, for a term you choose — typically 6 months, 1 year or 5 years. Once active, operators must block you from opening or accessing accounts, stop marketing to you within 24 hours, cancel outstanding wagers and return unused funds. If Something Goes Wrong: Complaints
Have an issue with a registered operator? The path is: 1) raise it with the operator’s support first; 2) if unresolved, file a complaint with the AGCO through its internet-gaming complaints process (iAGCO); 3) the AGCO can investigate standards breaches and take regulatory action.
